Valberg, Lofoten

Coming out of a narrow, winding country road on the eastern coast of Lofoten, you suddenly catch sight of the pointed, tall, twisted church tower of Valberg Church, which is located out to sea and watches over Valberg.

NOTE: Valberg can easily be confused with "Valberget", which is another location on Lofoten - so be aware of that before setting the GPS.

The archipelago

Just outside Valberg lies the most beautiful archipelago in Buksnesfjorden, which shields Valberg from wind and weather and breaks the waves from the ocean outside. These gigantic geological formations of rock islands outside Valberg, with raw, unspoiled nature, offer the opportunity to experience total tranquillity and being at peace with yourself.

If you are up for a cosy afternoon on the sea, but don't have your own boat, you will find the option of renting an ordinary rowing boat from "De Grønne Båter" in Skokkelvika, which is 3.5 km east of Valberg. Sailing out, you will experience total silence, where your eyes can contemplate the charming and unique landscape with towering mountains that embrace Valberg and the archipelago.

The sandy beaches

What's better than a cold dip before your morning coffee, after your hike or under the midnight sun? Valberg's arctic beaches are at the top of beautiful. Crystal clear water, small fine white grains of sand, and thanks to the Gulf Stream, the water temperature is actually up to a cool 12 degrees celsius in the summer.

Valberg is known among the locals for these iconic white sandy beaches and the clear blue water. Here there are plenty of opportunities to find the best place for a good picnic or barbecue evening - with the most beautiful view just a touch away.

When the first snow has fallen, and replaces the white sandy beach with a blanket of freshly fallen powder snow, which stands in elegant contrast to the blue turquoise sea, it is a very special experience that is both astonishing and calming.
