Do you have fishing in Lofoten on your bucket list? Take a magnificent fishing trip to the northern part of Norway; the incredible archipelago of Lofoten - where you can experience world-class fishing.

Fishing in Lofoten is for everyone; from the cosy fishing trip for the whole family to the hardcore anglers, who is driven towards the catch of a lifetime. You can rent a boat, fish from shore or get a guided fishing trip from one of Lofoten's many sports fishing operators, such as Lofoten Havfiske, Nordic Sea Angling or Hemmingodden. You will increase your chances a lot for a successful fishing trip when going with one of the local fishing guides. They have the local knowledge about when and where to fish. They will of course adapt the trip to each group, leading them directly to the right spots.

You can also go fishing in Lofoten on one of the local fishing boats. You will sail out on the open sea, where you will be part of the crew and experience the authentic fishing culture at its best. You must prepare for sweat on your forehead and sore arms - because every muscle in your body will tremble in the heat of battle of the biggest fish. But when you have landed your fish safely in the boat and you realise that your dinner is guaranteed, the exhaustion is replaced by pure euphoria.

In the popular fishing towns of Å, Reine, Henningsvær and Nusfjord there is plenty of opportunity to feel, smell, taste and experience Lofoten's nature and culture. Here, the mighty landscape and the blue sea create the backdrop for atmospheric city life, where the iconic small fishing huts, the picturesque dried fish and the ships in the quay give the authentic image of the heart of Lofoten.

But when to travel? During the warm, idyllic summer or the rough, frostbitten winter? Summertime offers the uninterrupted daylight of the midnight sun, which gives you ample opportunities to sail out at all hours of the day. Sailing out to sea under the midnight sun, surrounded by the dramatic mountains in total silence is a magical and unforgettable experience. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, which contributes to nutrient-rich water and warmer water temperatures, Lofoten’s summers create fantastic conditions for a rich sea life. Diverse fish species such as cod, redfish, ling, plaice, halibut and coalfish are excellent fish to eat. When you come ashore with your catch, you will feel the atmosphere of an authentic Norwegian fishing environment, where the cosiness and passion is contagious, regardless of whether you need help filleting your catch or you are an experienced fisherman. Nothing feels better than catching your own fish, prepared just to your liking.

During the dark hours of winter and the cooler sea temperatures, Lofoten is a gold mine of golden Arctic cod (norwegian), which has migrated from the Barents Sea to the waters outside Lofoten to spawn. The arctic cod makes the winter in Lofoten peak season for fishermen. One of the world's largest cod at 88 kg. was caught just outside Kabelvåg, Lofoten, in the year 1888. Read about it here (norwegian).

You can also take your chance at getting one of the metre-long halibut on the hook, which is guaranteed to provide you an action-packed fight on the line. In the evening, when you come ashore after an eventful day at sea, you look up at the sky and see the northern lights dancing in the most beautiful colours with the backdrop of snowy mountains and the cold polar air.

Take a fishing trip to Lofoten and get the ultimate fishing experience. You will not regret it!
