Do you want to experience Lofoten's most beautiful view? Go on a hike to the fantastic mountain of Reinebringen!

The hike to Reinebringen is one of the most popular climbs you can take on the mountains of the northern Norwegian archipelago of Lofoten. 1,566 steps with a rise of 45 degrees - and you are here... Right here the absolutely fantastic and unique view awaits you, which will immediately take your breath away.

Season: May-September Time: 1-2 hours

Distance: 2 km Difficulty: Moderate

Warning

Reinebringen is NOT recommended or suitable for children.

It is at your own risk to go on the mountain.

You are not advised to hike the mountain during winter.

When reaching the summit, make sure to keep a safety distance to the edge - great risk of slipping and falling.

The route begins with a short path system starting from Reine Ytre Havn. The path leads you to Reinebringen's famous Sherpa stairs, that wind steeply up the south-eastern mountainside with a sharp rise of 45 degrees. The steep ascent continues towards the top, so you may need to rest on the way: you will find several rest areas with benches where you can enjoy the view and rest your legs. The Sherpa stairs are designed with strong, robust stepping stones leading you all the way to the top. When you approach the top, you must be extra careful, as the stairs have not yet been completed for the last part of the route. There may be loose stones, so walk carefully and orient yourself.

When you have reached the summit of the Reinebringen you can enjoy the view of the many mountain ranges that surround the island paradise. Keep an eye out, because you might get a unique and amazing opportunity to spot the killer whales in the Vestfjorden - a view that is hard to beat.

Before you leave

Before you put on your hiking boots, check the weather forecast - including the wind strength. Only go on the mountain when there are stable weather conditions, and if the weather turns out to be rougher than first expected, turn around and plan for another time. In the event of rain or damp weather, be aware that the route may be slippery. For further information and help, ask one of the local mountain experts and keep updated on Reinebringen's Facebook page or contact Moskenes Tourist Information.

In the summer, Reinebringen can be a popular attraction. You must be prepared that it can be very crowded on this route. To avoid this, you can come early in the morning and might even get to enjoy the first morning sun rise from the top of the world.

What to bring?

Bring the most important equipment for the trip - think through what you will need on the route before you set off. Less is more.

A fully charged phone is not only essential to capture the fantastic views of the trip, but the phone is also a safety line that can help to call for help in the event of an accident.

Despite calm and sunny weather conditions from the start of the route, expect it to be colder and windier at the top. Bring dry and windproof clothes that you can change into when you enjoy the view from the top of Reinebringen.

Good hiking shoes, which are non-slip and suitable for the weather conditions, are important for a safe and comfortable hike to the top.

… And of course you must remember water and snacks that you can enjoy with the most beautiful view after a demanding hike.
